IT ALL STARTS BY UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM
"Globally, it is estimated that around 92 million tonnes of textile waste is generated each year, and the equivalent of a garbage truck full of clothing ends up in landfills every second."
Globally, it’s estimated that around 92 million tons of textile waste—the equivalent of a garbage truck full of clothing—end up in landfills every second. And if that weren’t enough, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a leading sustainability nonprofit, 87% of the material in clothing ends up incinerated or in a landfill after its final use; the rest tends to be used in things like rags, insulation materials, and mattress stuffing. Only 1% of the material used to produce clothing is recycled into new clothing. Even though many people and cities have embraced the zero-waste ethic through actions like composting and strict recycling practices, living a zero-waste life can be harder than you think. Many products, including clothing, are made from different materials that can’t be recycled through basic municipal recycling systems.
Understanding the complexities of recycling leads us to the conclusion that, while we should definitely continue to do so, it is also important that we all take responsibility for solving the root problem and reducing waste generation. It is important to understand that recycling is not the absolute solution and that reducing our consumption rates is key (consumers now buy 60% more clothing than they used to and keep it for half the time they did fifty years ago, according to a McKinsey study). Additionally, companies must begin designing products that are meant to last much longer, rather than products designed to be used once and thrown away. Finally, consumers must continue to question where all the goods and services they consume come from and make better, environmentally and socially conscious decisions when making a purchase.
UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM
At DELLA TERRA we have decided that making garments with sustainable materials is not enough and that we must take responsibility for the life of the product after purchase. For this reason, we suggest the following practices for use and care, and we created our return and recycling program.
Buy with love
Don't buy anything from us that you don't really need or want. Only buy pieces that you love and want to wear for a long, long time.
Donate or recycle
If you no longer wish to own your items, swap them with friends, donate them to someone in need, or return them to us for a 10% discount. We'll make sure they end up in the right hands or are recycled.
Take care of your clothes
Take care of your items. Ask us ALL questions about how to properly care for your garments if you have any concerns. We are committed to their quality, but after-wear care is a key factor in their longevity.
Fix
If it's broken, don't throw it away. REPAIR IT! Keeping clothes in use for just nine more months can reduce your carbon, water and waste footprint by up to a third.

OUR PROGRAM OF
RETURN AND RECYCLING
We want our products to have a healthy end of life for the planet, so we have decided to take that burden off your shoulders and now offer you the option of returning them to us and getting a 10% discount on your next purchase.
How does it work? It's simple
As with the repair program, please send us a message indicating the number of garments you are returning and we will send you a shipping label. Shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.
What will we do with them?
We will determine if it is in good enough condition to be given a second chance, either through a thrift store or through a donation.
If the garment is not in a condition to be reused, we will determine if it can be recycled.
Finally, if neither of the above options are possible, we will deliver it to our local textile recycler, who will turn it into mattress stuffing.
